Before kids, I was definitely not a morning person. Any day that started before 9 or 10am was too early. I remember when I first started dating my hubby, we’d hang out until 3 or 4 in the morning and that was a normal thing for me.
Imagine my surprise when I had the Little Man and he turned out to be a 6am riser. I have shed a few tears over that one.
Before kids, I used to love working out in the late afternoon/early evening. To me, it was the perfect break in my day. I’d get home from work, have a snack and head out to workout, come home, have dinner, and relax or go out. After kids, I’m lucky if I can stay away long enough to get my kids to bed. I’m still not a morning person but if I don’t workout in the morning, it likely won’t happen because I’ll be too tired and likely falling face down on the couch while Baby O cried for attention and the Little Man jumps on my spine.
So morning it is for me. It’s actually not been entirely bad. Only these past few weeks when I’ve been training for a half marathon in the fall have I set my alarm to ensure I’m up and out the door for my weekend long runs before the intense heat hits. It’s not pleasant but I find it gives my body the jolt it needs to get the day started.
Kinda like a cold shower…but stinkier.
When I’m working, I take advantage of our company gym and do my workout, or head outside for a run around 9am every day. It’s perfect because I get the break I need from my desk, I workout my stress which makes me a much happier employee AND I get an extra 20 minutes to sleep in the morning because I shower after my workout. Every body wins!
When do you prefer to workout? Have you always been the same or has your routine changed over the years?

I was just like you…minus the 3am bedtime! I would get home from work…relax a bit and then head to the gym. Then my hubby andI would meet back at home for dinner! Then came kids! Now I am up before the house is….or heading to the gym when I would like to be going to bed!
Runch for me – I cannot for the life of me wake up early. Even my kids aren’t early risers (which is all the more reason why I SHOULD workout in the morning…). I’m still amazed with O’s sleep “schedule” that you even workout at all – now that’s inspiring!!
